Our Three Charitable Purposes
Everything CYD does advances one of three charitable purposes. Here’s what each pillar means and what it looks like in practice.
- Weekly Quran classes for ages 5+
- Youth and adult Halaqah circles
- Ramadan evening programs
- Jumu’ah and community prayer
- Quranic memorization tracks
- Leadership development training
- Digital skills and computing
- Life skills workshops
- Academic tutoring
- Summer learning camps
- Career mentorship pairings
- Job readiness workshops
- Resume and interview coaching
- Newcomer employment support
We also host social and community gatherings — fellowship meals, family days, celebrations — as ancillary to the charitable mission. These help sustain the community fabric around our programs; they are not the charitable work itself.
Frequently asked
No. Most of our programs do, but we also host community gatherings, family days, and fellowship events as ancillary to our charitable mission. We label them honestly as community events rather than charitable programs.
These are three of the categories of charitable purpose the Canada Revenue Agency recognizes for Canadian registered charities. Aligning our work to these categories allows us to pursue registered charity status, issue tax receipts, and qualify for grant funding — all of which directly support our programs.
Yes. While our programs are oriented toward Muslim youth and families in Montreal, participation is open to anyone. Many of our relief-of-poverty programs explicitly serve newcomers regardless of background.
Each program has its own page with details on what participants will learn, who teaches it, how long it runs, and how to register. Visit our Programs page to browse.
